Moonlight Mod Installation

Use the official installer path, understand platform differences, and keep a reliable rollback option before adding extensions.

Policy note: The official Moonlight docs state that Discord client mods are against Discord's Terms of Service. Installation is a user decision and can carry account-policy and software-compatibility risk.

    Choose your platform

    Windows has a direct executable. macOS has a DMG installer. Linux support depends on the Discord install layout and may use Flatpak or other documented methods.

    Download only from upstream

    Use the moonlight-mod GitHub organization or official documentation. Avoid modified mirrors when the original installer is available.

    Close Discord fully

    Exit the tray/process before patching. This reduces file-lock and partial-patch problems.

    Install stable and patch

    Let the installer detect Discord, download the stable Moonlight channel, and patch the selected installation.

  5. 05

    Launch and test core behavior

    Open Discord before enabling a large extension set. Confirm the base mod loads, then add extensions gradually.

  6. 06

    Keep the installer for recovery

    If a Discord update causes breakage, update Moonlight or unpatch first instead of manually deleting random client files.
